Recent well-received research from the University of London sheds light on why our various human nature traits cause us to fall for dishonest marketing. An important human trait these marketers know how to play upon is our “optimism bias.” This is the human tendency to overestimate the likelihood that good things will happen to us and to underestimate the potential for unpleasant events. Optimism plays such an important part that human nature researchers now believe we may be born with “rose-colored glasses” and that our brains “tilt toward the positive.”
Another human trait is we are influenced visit – https://lambangxinviec.com/ by appearance. In my first case it was an honest sounding voice without an identifiable accent that engaged me. As he talked another human trait worked against me. This is known in research as a “confirmation bias” and he was happy to supply evidence to nudge it along. To prove to me he was representing a reliable company, although not one with the Better Business bureau, he emailed me a copy of a State Certificate showing a B rating. A subtle support to this confirmation bias was his using a “B,” rather than as “A.” This certificate, and the Amazon website, which his company made for me turned out to be fake.
This leads to another of the human traits we need to be aware of: overconfidence. Many others fall into the trap of believing we know more than we do. I was confident when I heard the phrase, “Amazon Website.” The confirmation bias kicked in, with the thought “Amazon can be trusted”–they wouldn’t be where and what they are if they weren’t honest. This company got around that by never hooking me up as an Amazon affiliate. I know all these details because another victim from our state filed suit against them and our States Attorney asked me to join in the suit. We did not get our money back but their company is no longer in business.
Another aspect of overconfidence is that we often overestimate our abilities. We must recognize internet marketing is, for most of us, a whole new field. We must not be overconfident about how much we know. I have two post graduate degrees so I figured I would do fine but neither degree is in network marketing so I have a whole new area of expertise to master. I quickly learned the importance to web marketing of having excellent computer skills and how much time can be lost if your typing skills are lacking.
There are several companies online who will teach you what you need to know. If you are serious about internet marketing try taking a course. Knowledge is always one key to success.
But, remember you are human and must protect yourself by being aware of your human traits and biases. We must always be aware that we should recognize what we don’t know, and not be overly optimistic or overconfident. We must remember, we are born with the tendency to be positive. But that can also be used to the good. Being positive you can succeed is a good thing. If you use your traits and abilities wisely, learn, work, and be positive, you can succeed.
